National Lottery Award for All Grant of £18,000
A Grant from the National Lottery, ‘Awards for All’ Fund for £18,000
This very generous grant will be used towards the development of an accessible area in the front of Kendal Lads & Girls Club, crating a welcoming and safe entry to the Centre for all users.
This will enable us to improve the area to the side and front of the Youth & Community Centre. It is currently difficult as an accessible route for all users into the building. There are currently 4 different Clubs, (47 members) who are disabled (5 of which are electric wheelchair users) and/or have learning differences; for them the physical access to the building can be difficult. The redevelopment will create a safe level pathway into the Centre on land to the side of the building; create disabled parking spaces and an identified (marked out) car/minibus drop off area, all off road and all on a level accessible tarmac area.
The current issue is that people park on the pathway leaving it very broken and uneven, and users of the Centre being dropped off in the roadway. This project will make an enormous difference for vulnerable/disabled people who will be dropped off in a safe area away from the road and traffic. The access to the building will be clear, smooth and on one level. This will give independence to wheel chair users and those with disabilities. The Centre hosts 13 Clubs with 199 users who attend the Youth & Community Centre on a regular basis, they will all benefit from having safe entry, away from traffic, steep steps and potholes.
There are 13 Clubs/Organisations using the Centre, 144 young people & 55 vulnerable people with disabilities. It is a very busy and vibrant place which will be enhanced by this new parking/drop off area.
Thank you to the National Lottery for all their support and Funding.
